Hunter College is seeking applicants for Programs in Blindness and Visual
Impairment. Fall Application Deadline - March 15
1. Blind and Visually Impaired: Teacher of the Blind and Visually
Impaired - Advanced Certificate (22 credits): Eligibility criteria include:
Teaching certificate in New York State: initial, professional or permanent
certification in any area. Master's degree in education or a related
services field (speech and language pathology, physical therapy, nursing)
with a GPA of 3.5 or better. GRE (no minimum score). ITI Funding available
on a competitive basis. (Distance Learning)
2. Advanced Certificate Advanced Certificate in Orientation and Mobility
(20 credits): Graduates eligible for ACVREP certification in Vision
Rehabilitation Therapy and ACVREP certification in orientation and mobility.
Eligibility criteria include: TVI or VRT certification, GPA of 3.0 or
higher. ITI Funding available on a competitive basis. (Distance Learning)
3. Master's Degree Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired - Program
1: For applicants who do not hold NYS certification in Childhood Education
BVI-MSED (47-60 credits) and Program 2 For applicants who hold Early
Childhood, Childhood, PreK-Grade 6, Middle Childhood or Adolescent Education
NYS certification: TCHBL-MSED (40-41 Credits): Eligibility criteria include:
GPA of 3.0 or higher, GRE (no minimum score).
4. Rehabilitation Teaching Master's Degree (40 Credits): Graduates
eligible for ACVREP Certification in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy.*
5. Combined Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Teaching and Orientation
and Mobility Program (54 Credits): Graduates eligible for ACVREP
certification in Vision Rehabilitation Therapy and ACVREP certification in
orientation and mobility.* (Distance Learning)
*RT and RT/O&M eligibility criteria include: Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or
higher, letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose.
