Braille Labels and Medicare Open Enrollment
Do your clients have Prescription Labels with Talking, Large Print and
Braille labels? The Scrip Talk labels are good, and not as widely known as
they should be.
Medicare Open Enrollment ends December 15th, so clients can change
pharmacies now to one that give best prices and also may supply accessible
labels. Every state is supposed to have Medicare counsellors to assist
patients with finding best prices for their medications.
Prescription Drugs with Large Print, Talking or Braille labels are available
from many mail order pharmacies and some local pharmacies. Accessible
Prescription Labels are special labels provided by pharmacists to patients
who have a visual or print impairment.
A person who requests accessible labels receives their medications with a
regular printed label, and a specialty label. ScripTalk talking labels,
large print labels and Braille labels are available at participating
pharmacies at no additional charge.

Accessible prescription label Choices:
Large print labels
A label printed in high-contrast large font is attached to the prescription
container. A 2D bar code offers access via mobile phone applications.
Talking labels
A small electronic RFID tag is attached to the container. The tag contains
the same data found on the printed label. A prescription reader loaned to
the patient reads aloud the label information.
Braille Labels
A clear adhesive Braille overlay is placed over the printed label for quick
identification. Braille labels are often used in conjunction with talking
labels.
