A virus identity (IDE) file which provides protection is
available now from the Sophos website, and will be incorporated
into the June 2005 (3.94) release of Sophos Anti-Virus.

Customers using EM Library, PureMessage or any of our Sophos
small business solutions will be automatically protected at
their next scheduled update.

At the time of writing, Sophos has received no reports from
users affected by this worm. However, we have issued this
advisory following enquiries to our support department from
customers.

W32/Mytob-BA is a mass-mailing worm and Trojan with an IRC backdoor. 
W32/Mytob-BA is capable of spreading through various operating system 
vulnerabilities such as LSASS (MS04-011). 
Emails sent by W32/Mytob-BA have the following characteristics:

Here are your banks documents. 
The original message was included as an attachment. 
The message cannot be represented in 7-bit ASCII encoding and has been sent as 
a binary attachment. 
The message contains Unicode characters and has been sent as a binary 
attachment. 
Mail transaction failed. Partial message is available. 
The attached file consists of a base name followed by one of the extentions 
BAT, CMD, PIF, SCR, EXE or ZIP. The worm may optionally create double 
extensions where the first extension is DOC, TXT or HTM and the final extension 
is PIF, SCR, EXE or ZIP. 
W32/Mytob-BA harvests email addresses from files on the infected computer and 
from the Windows address book. 
When first run, W32/Mytob-BA copies itself to the Windows system folder as 
taskgamr.exe and creates the following registry entries:

W32/Mytob-BA copies itself to the root folder as:

The worm also drops a helper component to C:\hellmsn.exe which is detected by 
Sophos's anti-virus products as W32/Mytob-D. 
W32/Mytob-BA also appends the following to the HOSTS file to deny access to 
security-related websites:
