Madrid, April 19th 2005 - According to Computerworld, at
http://www.computerworld.com/securitytopics/security/story/0,10801,101137,00.html,
because of an security error affecting numerous credit cards issued by a bank,
the cards of 180,000 clients in the USA are being replaced. The problem arose
from the fact that a particular retailer's system stored transaction details
instead of purging them. This could theoretically allow an attacker to recover
the credit card details. The bank in question has recognized the problem and
is canceling and replacing those cards that could be at risk.
There is however an added problem, which is that cyber-crooks could use the
situation to carry out phishing attacks. For this reason, users should
take care with emails received. If you receive notification from the bank
by email referring to replacement of credit cards or other similar
circumstances, do not give any information. From Oxygen3 24h-365d, we
remind users that if in doubt they should contact their bank to confirm any
communication received that arouses suspicion.
