Those are just proprietary graphics files, like an SFK file in sound forge.
Those are created whenever sam loads a wave file in order to display graphics.
You may delete them without consequence.

Yes, you should have the option of creating just a wave file as opposed to
creating a new object in the current project.
You also have the option under track bouncing to create a multi track bounce
with each track on an individual wave file. This is best if another studio
is going to mix the project as opposed to allowing sam to mix down to a
stereo wave file.
