Hi Matthew,
Think you already mentioned the Sound Ideas series, I do use that one,
where possible I like to try and create my own, it's more fun and
satisfying but can be time consuming.
I try and get as involved as possible right from attending casting and
shooting, record lots of room tones and ambiences.
I have the script, and the director sends me the dialog track along with
a separate track which contains little sine blips which correspond to
his cue sheet, for example beep 52 'door opens outdoor ambience' bleep
53 door closes, you get the kind of thing. It seems to work well, it
does take quite meticulous concentration especially if there are a rapid
succession of events, it's very easy to miss a bleep and mess up a cue,
but by working in small sections at a time it's usually easily
rectifiable just a bit frustrating! lol
Obviusly there are areas where sighted help is essential, with all the
preparation in the world there are situations where something onscreen
is a purely visual gag and the music has to reflect that, similarly it's
easy to get carried away with some of these fantastic cinematic Kontakt
libraries and make a low budget film appear ridiculous because the sound
effects have been way over the top.
How is your production coming along, weren't you producing an audio drama?
Best,
Chris

Hi Chris,
It's not Surround Sound, but I may be able to use WaveArts Panorama to
make the Stereo siganl Binaural. Do you have any other recommendations
for other SFX libraries that you use? How do you score as a
visually-impaired person? Do you read the script, write what you think
the director might want, and then have him line everything up later,
or do you have enough vision to see the footage that you score?
Thank you!
