From looking at Google I think that i'm correct in stating that there are some changes to Google but not a lot that affect me at any rate.

Bert The first thing to do is use the below link to access Google: http://www.google.com/search?complete=0This was a page recently given out to us by Aedan O'Meara which removes someof Googles fancy auto fill features that cause us problems sometimes. You will make this a shortcut on your desktop for easy use later. Now on with how best to work within Google using Jaws. 1. On your desktop, look for "Internet Explorer" and press enter key then wait for Google to load up fully on your screens. Notes: This is important to know about, sometimes when the Google web pageloads up jaws might say something like "Search edit box". This can mean that jaws is already focused within the main search box which is where you begin typing up your search item. I would however suggest that you first press the"Tab key" and jaws should say something like Search button, when he says this then perform a reverse tab using keys "Shift + Tab" once and you are back into the search edit box. The reason for doing this is that while it sounds like jaws is already in the edit box when you got to type in something nothing will get typed in and so it's a wasted effort. So just follow what I have outlined here to get it right.2. Another time you load up the Google web page you may notice that jaws isnot in the search edit box at all. In this case we need to put jaws focus into this search box by first stopping jaws from talking using the control key then nice and gently press the letter "E" on your keyboard once. This will then put jaws focus onto the search edit box. 3. Now with focus on the search edit box in Google, press the "enter key" once to turn on forms mode. For those who don't understand what forms mode is, it is a feature of jaws which allows jaws to type into edit boxes andperform other tasks on a web page, without it we wouldn't be able to type inwords to search for in Google using our keyboard. This is just a brief summary of what jaws forms mode is all about.4. When you press the enter key on the Google search edit box, jaws will say"Forms Mode On" and now we are ready to type in our search words. 5. Begin typing in whatever it is that you wish to search for, for examplelet's say we want to know more about the Irish census of 1911, we could typein the words as follows; Irish Census 19116. When we have our words typed in we can now press the "Enter key" to begin the Google search, give it a few moments to find out whatever information isout there relating to the words we have typed in and then when jaws beginstalking as if he is reading down the new page, press the bottom left controlkey to stop him. 7. It's at this point we can now quickly jump onto the list of search results that Google returned to us with. There is a nice little feature in current versions of jaws which allows us to do this and it's called"Headings". At this point we will press the letter "H" on our keyboard onceand jaws should say something like the following; Google Heading Level 1 Link. Notes: you can ignore this and again press the letter "H". You should hear jaws announce the following; Google Options Heading Level 2.Notes: Again do not concern yourselves with this but just go ahead and oncemore press the letter "H" till you hear the following result; Search Results Heading Level 2.Notes: Bingo, this is where we want to be. Just directly below this heading will be our list of results. You can arrow down through each of the resultsand as you do each result will come attached to a link for which when youpress the enter key on it then that page will open up and show you whateverinformation it contains relating to whatever you searched for. 7. As you begin to arrow down you will hear the following; (List of ten items) 1. Link, National Archives: Census of Ireland 1901/1911 Notes: Just beneath each result that you arrow too will be some detailed information relating to what you can expect to find when you enter this page. Some of it can be quite lengthy and goes on a while before you reach the next result in the list. 2. Link, The 1911 Irish Census Again some more information you can access about your search query. Notes: When you reach any of the results in the list, listen for the linethat has the "Link" announced by jaws which is generally the first line andhere if this is what you want, press the "Enter key" to enter into that page. 8. When you have reviewed the page you went into from the Google resultspage and you feel you would like to return back to your list of results, usethe keys; Left alt key + Left arrow once. Press and old down the left alt key then press the left arrow key once and wait for a few moments till you are returned back to the exact position you were in just before you pressed on the enter key to move into the new page. Use the above techniques often to perform searches, jump quickly onto the results list and then go into a page from one of the results as it's the same across the board.
