Hi Paul, thanks for your help. I was half thinking that page 300 on the book is not necessarily the same page in word... I'll try that marker scheme alright and it should work alright.. Let me give you some ideas and note these are only my own observations and solutions unique to myself but maybe of help to you. I sometimes buy books that is the hard copy version and in it comes a CD with a version of the book in PDF format. If this is the case I try and convert the PDF book into word so that I can then put in notes, bookmarks etc. Because the book was designed and created in something like Adobe the converted document doesn't always reflect how the book should read in terms of page numbers etc. Chapters that should be on Page 200 for example might be well on page 200 of the written document but not be on page 200 if you were to do a "page find", "control + G". However if you were to do a "word find", "control + F" you could type in something like the word Introduction and while the first find you would come to might well place you in the table of contents, repeating the process again would take you to the introduction portion of the book or document. We would then know that we are near the starting point of the actual document. When I reach this position in a book I usually place a marker on the blank line preceding the word introduction such as *Start* or whatever you like. Now finding the location of various chapters can be a hassle because say for example you are looking for "chapter 7". You do a find, "control + F" and type in Chapter 7 and hit enter. I find that in many cases you could have chapter 7 mentioned in various parts of the book and still not be on the actual beginning of the documents chapter 7. In many cases as I read through the book I place a marker at the point I finished on so that next time I come back to it I can do a word find, "control + F" and type in my marker which is for me, *:* You can try and experiment in this way. Not sure if this is much help to you but see how you go and I am sure others here will have their own way of doing things.
