Hi Paul T,
Tried that successfully.
Can I suggest that on older systems which I don't have now, could one
try getting the properties of the Volume Control under entertainment in
accessories. Regards and thanks
Aedan.

Hi Paul,

This tip is only for windows XP systems. It won't work on the older
systems.

Paul.

Hi Paul.

Tried the instructions on my laptop and it worked, no bother. Tried the
old Millennium again after that but again no luck.

Paul

the desktop

Hi All,

Thought I would write up a little tip I needed to use recently. It
places an icon for the volume control on your desktop. You can also add
a shortcut key to it for to bring up the volume control quickly.

Step 1.

Get focus on the desktop by using the keys "winkey + m" or "winkey + D".

Step 2.

If there is something on the desktop selected, jaws should say "my
documents selected" note this is just an example, it could be anything
on the desktop. We need to unselect this item whatever it is.

Step 3. Use the keys, "control + spacebar" pressed once to unselect the
item. However you may go to the desktop and jaws will say that nothing
is selected "unselected". If so then that is fine too and so you re
ready to begin making the shortcut.

Step 4.

Press the application key on your keyboard, "third key out from right of
the spacebar".

Step 5.

Arrow down to where it says "new sub menu" and right arrow in here.

Step 6.

Down arrow to "shortcut" and press the enter key.

Step 7. You will be asked to specify a path to the item you wish to make
a shortcut too so type in here the following path exactly;

C:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe

Now press the enter key. If you have typed the above correctly all will
go well and you will move on to the next step, if you have done anything
then you will be informed and so you will have to correct it.

Step 8.

The next step is to give the new icon a name so I just call it; Volume
and again I press the enter key. Now you're finished.

Step 9.

We will now add a shortcut key to this item so while focus is on the
desktop press the letter "V" till you locate and have focus of the newly
created volume icon.

Step 10.

Press and hold down the left "alt key and press the enter key". This
will then open up the properties of the volume shortcut.

Step 11.

Use the tab key to jump to the edit box that says "shortcut key none"
and just type in the one letter, in my case I used the letter "V".

Step 12. Now tab once more and you will be in a list box that is titled
"run". You can arrow down through this list box until you come to the
word "maximised", stop at this and then tab to the "ok button" and press
enter.

Now you're done.

I want you all to give this a go and let the list know how you got on.

Paul.
