How to change sound card settings in windows 7

The following tutorial is based on a situation where you may be trying to
set up a software package such as skype or some sort of audio application,
or you may work in an office area where speech coming out of speakers may
not be suitable and you want to use headphones.

Important: At the point where you are now going to change your settings the
situation you are in maybe that you have no speech coming through the normal
external speakers of the laptop or PC. Speech may have already been diverted
to the Headphones as windows 7 is notorious for switching all sound over to
headphones especially if they are USB driven so when attempting the below
instructions either have sighted help or wear the headphones to hear what
you are doing.

1. In windows 7, open the start menu.
2. In the search box that comes up, type in the word Sound and then wait a
moment or two.
3. Arrow down through the list of results till you come to one called:
"Change Sound Card Settings"
4. Press enter on this choice or double left click. The sound card control
page will open up.
You will now be in the sound card play back section and will have a list of
sound devices o nyour laptop displayed such as speakers etc.
5. If it is your wish to have speech come out of the laptop speakers
permenantly and only have speech come through the headphones sometimes then
you need to choose usually the first item in this list which is simply
called "Speakers" denoting the laptops own speaker system.
6. Once you have decided on which speaker setup you want speech coming from
on a permenant basis, tab key over to the "Default button" and press the
spacebar or "left click" once so that your new settings will be saved as you
want them.
Next tab over to the "OK" button and press spacebar or again "Left Click" to
complete the job.
