The footer doesn’t appear at the end of messages much of the time now.
Have the friend send an email to “vip_students-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx” and, in
the subject fielld, type “subscribe”. (In both cases, do not use quotation
marks.)

Hey Irene
you could sign your friend up yourself, at the bottom of these emails there is
a manage subscription and you can select to join you just need your friends
email address they then will get an email to simply reply to just to confirm
and they will be on the list.
