Hello all,
You may have heard on the news that the first phase of the digitisation
of the 1901 and 1911 censuses comprising the Dublin Census Records 1911
has just been released and can be searched at:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie
The census images cannot be interpreted by Jaws, however, an index of
every name and address that appears in the census can be searched which
makes them particularly useful to Visually Impaired researchers.
Needless to say this is a very exciting development for anyone
interested in their family history as you can see from the below e-mail
received this morning:
"Congratulations and grateful thanks for a marvellous achievement. I am
in New York and cannot tell you how exciting it was to be able to obtain
access instantly to so much information about my family and the location
where it came from. The information is also so well presented and easy
to navigate. You have delivered a tremendous public service. Heartfelt
thanks to all concerned."
