Hi, Tony,
Here is a possible alternative, i.e. a volume of tactile maps.
http://first.tn.networkofcare.org/aging/assistive/detail.aspx?id=1178&cid=13

The date mentioned on this page is 2003, so I do not know if the maps are
still available. If so, they are considerably cheaper than I expect a globe
would be and probably give more detail.
Take care,
Gerry Ellis

How will you know when you get there?

Hi Tony,
I would be very surprised if the RNIB in England doesn't sell tactile globes
(not cheap, of course, if purchased outside of the UK). I think I bought
one from there more than 40 years ago - don't know where it is now - but I
think they have produced a different and better one since.
Sean.

Hi Tony, Joan Ann and all.
There is an app called Talking Atlas available from the app store. It is a
paid app and I haven't tried it so this is not a recommendation, just
drawing it to your attention. Search for it on www.applevis.com where you
will find some comments. I note that it hasn't been updated since 2015.
Anyone out there tried it?
Paul

Hi Tony
I remember in school we had a tactile globe. I also had a jigsaw of the map
of Ireland and someone had very kindly labeled the counties. It was a great
way to learn where counties were situated.
I came across the following link which might help
