Hello Mr. chairman of vics, I am deeply impressed with the way and manner Jery Elliss has informed me on the implications fo donating computers to blind peple outside Europe, now that I know all I need from members now are used typwritters ifanyone of us have typewritters that can be given out to blind people in Africa because most blind people are still using the manual or electronic typewritters. Thank Jerry EEllis for alaying my fears hopefully I shall be present in May a.gm. do you know that same day is Irish guide dogs a.g. too. just a point of notice, anyway thank you all once again for your hospitality to me.
sincerely yours festus Asemota.----- Original Message ----- From: <Tony.G.Murray@xxxxxx>

Hi all, Here is an update on what is going on with VICS at the moment. AS you know, we are coming to the end of another VICS term. The VICS AGM will be held in the NCBI's training centre at their HQ on Whitworth Road in Drumcondra. It will take place on Saturday May 24th, and we will kick off at 2:00 PM. I hope to see lots of you there. A big thanks to Stuart and Des at the NCBI for giving us the use of this wonderful facility for our AGM. It is much appreciated. The pilot of the ATAG project seems to have been a great success. Many of you have availed of it, and I'm sure you will join me in thanking Tim Culhane and the NCBI who were responsible for getting this up and running. Tim and I are due to meet with Stuart and Des from the NCBI in the near future to discuss how we take this project forward. Naturally, you'll be the first to know! We are currently working on significantly updating the VICS web site. This is to coincide with the introduction of the Members Only area, which you will see being implemented in the near future. This private area will contain past articles from Infovics for download, training material, research papers, and much more. As always, if you have any training or research material you'd like to share with your fellow members, please send it on to me for inclusion on the site. The first VICS lunch time seminar took place at the ICS building on Mount Street Crescent in February. All feedback from this has been very positive, and I am delighted to tell you that there will be further similar events scheduled in the near future. The ICS were excellent as always, they helped us promote and host the seminar. In the future, we hope to broadcast these seminars on the Internet, and make them available for download. This will be yet another new feature of the Members Only area on the web site. It has been great to see how busy our email list has been in the past while. The group is a staple of VICS at this stage, and I am sure you all have benefitted from it in one way or another down the years. I urge you all to use this facility, and never be afraid to post a question or interesting article you may find. The whole thing can only work because of you guys mailing in; the more traffic we have, the better it is. So, get posting! The list doesn't only have to be a list for asking questions. If you find out how to do something quickly on your computer that you think may be of benefit to your fellow members, let us know how you did it. How about some trick you discovered on your mobile phone? Well, share it please! There are a lot of ideas for new projects and working groups on the cards at the moment, and putting these in to motion will be tasks for the new Committee to tackle for the next term. VICS is in a great position at the moment, and given our links with many high powered organisations, there is potential to continue what we're doing and to expand in to other areas in the coming years. It is an exciting time, so I'd urge all of you to get involved. Those of you who have an interest in working at a high level in the society should come along to the AGM on May 24th, or submit a letter to our secretary stating that you'd like to be considered for the Committee. I've been on the Committee for the past seven years, and I can tell you it is a lot of fun and very rewarding. There are plenty of chances to expand your skills, and plenty of opportunities to bring your ideas to the table and initiate projects based on them. You don't have to be technical to be on the Committee, any member has the chance to put themselves forward. All you need is commitment and a willingness to pitch in and work in a positive way for your fellow VICS members. There will be further updates and reminders of the AGM hitting your mail boxes in the coming weeks, so please put that date in to your diary (May 24th). As always, thanks to the Committee and you all for keeping this society the well oiled and functional machine it is.
