Vision Loss Inspiring Innovation...

The NCBI Centre for Inclusive Technology invites you to its Technology Showcase
2012, sponsored by Dublin City Council.

Ten designers of inclusive technologies will battle against each other in an
exhibition-style showcase for a cash prize of €3,000. You are invited to come
and experience their inventions and demos for yourself.

The Showcase will take place in City Wall Space, Wood Quay Venue, Dublin 2 on
Thursday 26th April 2012 from 1pm to 4pm.

Entries comprise of technologies which were designed in an inclusive way,
including those which specifically address the needs of users who are blind or
have a vision impairment.

The entries are:

1. AutonoMi: A personal security alarm for older people living independently.
2. VisionRE : A navigation aid for detecting obstacles while walking.
3. Aquaeye: A swimming aid for people with a vision impairment.
4. An accessible version of the RTE Player.
5. RowMate Access: A Smartphone App which allows vision impaired rowers to
train independently using an indoor rowing machine.
6. HomeSense: A system which alerts the user to potential hazards within the
home, such as open cupboard or appliance doors, allowing safe and independent
navigation around the house.
7. ABAIR: A prototype Irish Language Reader with ABAIR Synthetic Voices
incorporated into digital talking books (using the DAISY format).
8. Voices as Gaeilge for PC and Mac: Software which can be installed on Mac OS
X (& later on PC) as an additional screenreading voice, speaking in Ir ish.
9. LookAround App: A Smartphone App which announces the current street, city,
cross street, h eading and nearby points of interest.
10. First Alert Solutions: An RFID technology solution which allows a person
who is blind or vision impaired to more effectively use existing public
technology, such as traffic signal controllers, information signage and rail
transportation systems.

Please note, the exhibition is open to the public from 1pm to 3.30pm. The
judges' announcement and prize giving will take place from approximately 3.30pm
to 4pm.

Entry is free but please RSVP to Antoinette Fennell at
<mailto:antoinette.fennell@xxxxxxx> antoinette.fennell@xxxxxxx or at (01) 8821
988. Provide your name, organisation (if relevant) and contact details when

please also let me know.

Please feel free to forward this invitation on to colleagues.
