Thanks Emma, that’s good to know.
Like you I used to use Flecksy as well.
If you have the Apple Watch app, I presume that you should be OK in the future,
as it is my understanding that it is the basic phone app that is being pulled.
Be careful downloading any FlickType updates to the basic phone app, as you
might lose the basic phone app completely. This is all just guesswork on my
part.

As a constant user of this app I will certainly be sending an email. I just
hope that this bit of pressure will be enough to head off
Their decision to take it down – it is extremely useful and as you have said,
allows us to type almost as fast as our sighted counterparts. I would miss it
big time if it were removed.
I also used the Flexi predecessor.

Hi Gerard,
A bit of history and context for you.
FlickType was created by the same guy who created fleksy many years ago if you
remember that, and works in very much the same way.
It’s pretty unique as on-screen keyboards go. You don’t need to find the letter
you want, and then lift your finger or double tap or anything. You simply
quickly tap where you think each letter is, and the FlickType keyboard
intelligently figures out what word you wanted based on the rough pattern of
where your taps were. If it gets it wrong, you simply swipe up for more
suggestions.
It was originally released as a standalone app, much like its predecessor
Fleksy, where you type, then copy the text into the app you want.
They then created it as a third party keyboard which you can use inside any
other app where the keyboard appears, in place of the standard iOS keyboard.
It’s very much designed for blind and low vision users.
The Watch keyboard is kind of the mainstream offshoot of FlickType, designed to
make it easier to type on the small Watch screen for everyone.
Alongside that, they had maintained the iPhone keyboard for blind and low
vision folks.
Now they are pilling the app due to the ongoing disputes with Apple as Paul has
said.

problems in this situation. I looked up flicktype and got a number of results
which had reference to watch so is it more specific to apple watch and what is
the advantage of using it over the standard keyboard with voiceover? Asking
these questions doesn’t mean that I won’t do as you ask but I’m interested to
find out more.

Hi all.
This message is aimed at those of you who may have used the basic FlickType app
on the iPhone. The basic app is disappearing from the app store due to a
dispute between the app developer and Apple which you can check out online
should you wish to do so. However, in my view, the important thing here is to
convince Apple of the invaluable worth of the FlickType basic iphone app
The app is brilliant in concept, allowing vision impaired users to type on the
ios keyboard, almost, but not quite smile, as fast as sighted users.
Jonathan Mosen is urging as many of us as possible to email Apple’s Phil
Schiller

to urge him to intervene personally to sort out the problems leading to the
