Hi Sandy, with reference to your point about the larger fonts, I think you are right. If I wanted to see a page with my reduced vision the large characters applied on the default page may not be clear enough for me so I will still have to use my character enlarging software. Also depending on the design and colour of pages I may have to make other adjustmentsIn. my origional message, I wasn't checking up on political correctness but just annoyed at the mixed up use of the old English phraseology and besides if some one comes up to me on the street and asks am I blind and do I need a hand crossing the road- I don't proceed to give them a tutorial on politicial correctness I say yes please and take their arm. regards Gerry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandy Tomkins" <sandratomkins@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>

Flor,

Understanding, as I do, the need to keep all things on topic on
this list, there is something of interest here which crosses the
boundery of political correctness and accessibility: to wit: If a
website goes out of its way to provide a larger font etc, is it
actually helping those of us using screen magnifiers? What I mean, a
person set up for reading the screens with appropriate software to
make them accessible, are they really helped by huge fonts? I am
thinking not. Some things may look like they are inclusive, whereas,
in reality, they may actually be making things worse. I actually don’t
know, but would be interested to know if people are generally glad of
such sites or would they prefer things to be kept to the norm?

Finally, political correctness has always seemed to me to be
something with which to put a stranglehold on people’s stereotypes.
They spend for ever looking to use the latest “correct term” they
never can find it, but we can all have a good laugh while they squirm!

   Sandy.
