THIS Month
Presentation by “the Mediate Team”, an MIT startup. Here is their description
of what they will talk about:
"As the Mediate team, we are developing an AI solution to understand
surroundings for the visually impaired. Our goal is to develop a device with
a camera, which can process the images and develop an understanding of the
physical environment and can later present them in a conversational way.
Different from SeeingAI and Vocaleyes, we are working on a technology that
will find and locate the objects of interest (for example chairs, doors,
elevators) and help the person access them. Different from Aira, our
technology will be AI-based, much more affordable without any waiting period
to connect to a live agent.
For the first version of our product, we are planning to release a mobile app
that will locate some objects of interests. We would like to talk to people
about which contexts they would be using such an app, what kind of objects
they would be looking to find, and what kind of a user experience concerns we
should be aware of."
Lou Lasher will discuss his experience doing audio description of movies and
TV episodes for the Blind Mice Movie Vault.
I will describe a recent hack-athon held at Perkins.
