Thanks for this timely warning then. However I’ve not been able to unshare the
vibe folder in dropbox. It tells me I don’t have permission to change the
settings. The only other option available is to remove the vibe folder from my
dropbox, but that leads me to think it may also get removed from Everybody
else’s, and I don’t want to be responsible for that! Do you have any further
thoughts?

That's because you have full editing rights. So, please don't do that.
Instead, in your DropBox account, opt out of the sharing of the VIBE folder.
Then you can sort freely, and re-join as and when.
