...accessibility has become a *very* lucrative market, and it is fed by
agencies (including, but not limited to) the Federal Government, who
purchase accessible stuff for us to use (so long as we work for them, or
whatever they require). Also, the producers know very well that we'll
*find* a way to afford what we need, and, since there is often little or
no
competition, they can get away with it. The rationalization is that we
are
a small market share, so in order to make it profitable for them to
produce
such things, they *have* to charge high prices. This is why, among other
reasons, that I am a Kindle advocate. It wasn't developed for us ...but
it
so happens that we can use it, or most of it, and the more who buy and use
Kindles, the stronger our voice will be ...and oh, just by the way,
sighted
people, for whom the TTS was originally intended, will find most of what
we
want very handy, too.
