hi kelly. in saying all of the following, my fire is connected to the
internet, because, i never turn it to airplane mode. but, here goes.
everything below was tried in airplane mode and my findings follow.
i have not found a quick way to do this, but, the following two ways i
use and work.
unlike audio files which end up in your music library, video is not
found in other fire libraries including video (at least, i have not
found them). but, here is my workarounds.
1. (i suspect this is the way you go about playing your videos.
however, you are correct. the video files will not play in airplane
mode. i think it has something to do with the player which is probably
cloud based). go to quick settings/settings/storage and tap on sd
card. you will find your videos there. again, using this method, you
have to be connected to the internet!
here is a second way, which i like better even before i realized that
it doesn't require an internet connection. of course, thanks for the
new knowledge!
2. use the free app es file explorer to open your sd card and find all
of your files on that card. tap on the video. a pop-up will allow for
viewing options. go for the option called photo viewer or something
like that. name doesn't make sense, but, video will play with
controls. note that this method also shows the files with the file
name you have given. using method one above, the files were given a
date name probably from the date the creator made the video. not very
useful for me though.
perhaps there is a video player app that can create a playlist which
will directly point to the video files on the sd card. however, in the
meantime, if someone has better options, i'm all ears!
note that i have dozens of video files on my card which are downloaded
youtube videos of concerts, some longer than one hour. they all work
fine. i have also used the audio editor audacity to strip out the
audio of these and others and saved as .ogg files which end up in the
music library and play nicely.
