Hi Mary. I think you are correct about the timer being limited as
kinda strange. But, as a tablet, it is a hands device unlike the Echo.
Still, you could drive yourself nuts by swiping the glass after
setting the timer and get a second by second readout!
Maybe if we put this on our bucket list, perhaps there will be an
upgrade. Think?

Well, I was wrong about the Alexa and not being able to open apps. It can do
that now. It can’t unlock your device for you. And strangely, if you set a
timer and then ask it how much time is left, it can’t tell you. It opens the
screen and says here are your timers. That is stupid in my Pinyan. The echo
just plain tells you how much time you have left, which is a lot nicer.
