hi greg. i think i side-loaded dropbox on my kindle fire. here is the
link to the google play store dropbox page.

i would copy the file name (dropbox) as it is written on the page and
then going back to the page i included in the last email (about
side-loading) tap on the imobile link and then searching for that
copied name from the google play store dropbox page. the search should
bring up the app so you can download to your computer where you can
find it again.
i would then attach the file to an email and send the email to
yourself. then go to the kindle fire, bring up the email. tap on it to
download to the fire. just remember to change your kindle fire to
accepting other than kindle apps before you download to install.
should work.
note: that dropbox is usable but not all of the buttons are mapped, so
you have to goose around to figure them out. but, the app is usable
enough to use with my kindle fire.
i then use the dropbox to do all of my side-loads. tapping on the file
name starts the download no problem. hope this helps.
last thing/thought. are you allowing for apps from unknown sources
(i'm sure this has to be on) when using the dropbox webpage method
(dropbox sending a linked email to you) that you are trying. just a
thought.
