I take it that, in your first message, when you said "Kindle" you meant a Fire
tablet, and when you said "Alexa" you meant Alexa through the Echo Dot.
Not definite, but it sounds as if automatic Voicecast is enabled for your Fire
tablet. You could go into the Alexa app on your fire, go into settings, and
then into Voicecast. Here there will be two choices, the first is enable
Voicecast and the second is enable automatic Voicecast. Make sure the second
one is not checked.

Thank you, but I am not trying to use Alexa on the Kindle. I have an echo
dot. In fact I have two echo dots. The app on the Kindle is of course linked
to the echo. So when I do something on the echo my app is also recording this.

Hi Cheryl,
I’ve not experienced this either.
However, can’t you close the Alexa app from the App list page? If the App is
closed then it shouldn’t be able to announce anything.
You don’t need the Alexa app to be open in order to use Alexa on the Kindle.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards. Ian.

Actually, I think the Alexa app is automatically available on certain
generations of the Kindle Fire. At least I don't think I remember downloading
it but I could be wrong.

OK, sorry I misunderstood you. I don't think I have that app on my Kindle
fire. If I have to use the app, I use it on my phone.

No,, this is a difference between actually using the app and commanding
Alexa to do something. You do have to tap and hold to actually ask Alexa to
do something on your Kindle Fire. But the Alexa app itself, which helps you
to do setup and work with various items related to your echo works like any
normal app on your Kindle. In this case, not always but often, when I tell
Alexa to do something, the app on the Kindle comes up and apparently is
keeping a record of that. I do understand that the apps do keep a record of
things you say to Alexa. But my question is: Is there a way to keep the app
from announcing out loud?

Wow! I never see that. I have one kindle, an HD eight. And it was my
impression that in order to get Alexa , you had to double tap and hold on
the home button. Not a physical button of course. And I've never had a come
on when I didn't want it.

Even if locked,, a kindle near Alexa always comes on and announces what I
have said when I talk to Alexa, most of the time anyway. Alexa has been
dismissed but it still happens. Is there a way to prevent this?
Thanks.
