Medication Safety Awareness
for the Blind Week
September 9-15, 2017
Medication Safety begins with being able to read the label.
Nearly 14 million Americans have low vision or are blind, including many
seniors over the age of 65. For these individuals, not being about to
clearly read a prescription label can result in medication errors,
unnecessary injury or even death. Audible, large-print and Braille formats
and are most often provided by pharmacies at no cost in compliance with the
American's with Disabilities Act. There are many pharmacies that already
provide this FREE service but do not advertise it.
Medication Safety Awareness for the Blind week is a great opportunity to let
your community know that those who are low vision or blind can get FREE
audible, large print and Braille prescription labels. Plan an awareness
activity during the week of September 9-15th. Sign up to receive a
Participation Kit which includes brochures and a ScripTalk demonstration
unit. You can also download the "How to Help Save Lives Handout" for more
ideas.
