I also noticed this amongst the Bufflehead flocks at Beaver Lake at Pocahontas State Park. The numbers are a bit lopsided, too, for Mallards, but I've always chalked that up the unsavory fall/winter slaughter of them by the riffle toting types. The uneven Bufflehead ratios, however, is interesting. I've seen them a few times on Gregory Pond at Rockwood Park, and I *only* saw males then.
