This has been some weekend for the birds. On Saturday I saw 12 robins and 15 starlings. Yesterday, it was 4 red winged blackbirds and 81 grackles. Today it is 73 cowbirds, 70 grackles, 12 starlings, 12 robins, 8 red-winged blackbirds, and 8 cedar waxwings. Great Backyard Birdcount sure picked a good weekend for its annual February birdcount. It is the first time I have ever seen cedar waxwings. A tree on my neighbor's lawn near the driveway is dropping berries and these berries are attracting robins, cedar waxwings, and starlings, sometimes in huge numbers. I took some of the berries and scattered them in our usual bird area, hoping the waxwings show up there. Jim Blowers
