Yard-birders: Our yard was full of birds today - feeding like crazy to ward off the cold. We counted 30 species including a FOS Fox Sparrow, a species that tends to turn up when it snows! Red-breasted Nuthatches and Pine Siskins were at the feeders, a pair of Red-tailed Hawks tried in vain to tease a squirrel from its nest, six woodpecker species ate suet in various forms or fed in the yard, and the Pine Warblers joined the fight for space at the feeder with the sunflower kernels. And the cardinals, white-throats and juncos were here in numbers - feeding on the seed John spreads on the ground under the trees. We'll see what WINTER brings our way!!
