When I taught at Meadowbrook High School, we had a meeting at my department chair's house in a subdivision off Iron Bridge Rd. near route 288. I saw a Red-headed Woodpecker in his backyard. That was about 7 or 8 years ago. That's the first time we have seen that species in the Meadowbrook area in the 18 years we have been in the neighborhood, although they are seen frequently in other areas near Richmond. > The bird was mostly black & White, with a very small reddish patch starting to develop. A few small spots of pink skin showed through on the head and neck. The throat had a dusky gray patch but the rest of the front was white, and it displayed a lot more white in flight. > Meadowbrook is on Falling Creek northeast of Chippenham Parkway and Hopkins Rd. We hopefully got a few identifiable photos. > Al & Linda Warfield > You are subscribed to VA-Richmond-General.
