Birders,
Richmond Audubon had a great turnout of birders and birds this morning for
the annual spring walk at James River Park-42nd St. This was a "warbler
neck" day. A good diversity of migrants including 17 species of warblers
were observed. By the end of the walk the species count was at 75. Below
is a list of birds observed by the trip leader (it does not reflect other
species seen by people when they split from the group).
Highlights were eye level views of warblers along the railroad bridge, an
abundance of species like Northern Parula and Black-and-White Warbler
throughout, a singing Marsh Wren in the weeds at the visitor center, and a
singing Bay-breasted Warbler on the Buttermilk Trail.

According to radar tonight is a big night for migration across the eastern
half of the state and should result in some new birds in our region in the
morning. I hope moms love warblers!
