Just goes to show they are not particular where they attach. I found 2
chrysalis hanging from the space at the bottom of the house siding – you know
that small overhang right at the foundation. This is my first year having
milkweed so I was supper excited to find the caterpillars then chrysalis and
catch one after he had emerged.

Subject: [va-richmond-general] New larval "plant" for Monarch Butterfly
discovered in Chester, VA 10 Sept 2015
As I was backing out the driveway this after, running late for an appt. my eyes
caught a glimpse of our trash can set out on the curb for trash pick-up
tomorrow. I came to a very quick stop when I saw something clinging on the side
of the container. I actually knew what it was but had to get out and see it for
myself. After a few quick snap shots I moved the trash can back to the house.
Will have to reallocate the trash bags to another container to allow this
chrysalis to mature on "Wastclepias Managerosa".
This was definitely a first! A couple years ago I found a chrysalis hanging
from a railing in Marg O's barn in Highland County. This is my first "trash
Monarch".
Will be keeping a close eye.
