Hi Everyone,What a unique opportunity to be a citizen scientist for our National Parks in compiling information for our bird communities.
The Mid-Atlantic Network Inventory and Monitoring Program is seeking birders to join the Bird Monitoring Program. As a Bird Monitoring Volunteer, you will attend one training session in April and conduct 10 minute point-counts for a 5 hour period on a day at pre-selected sites within our Mid Atlantic parks. You can volunteer for as many days as you like. For 2010, pilot surveys will be conducted at Appomattox Court House NHP <http://www.nps.gov/apco/>, Booker T. Washington NM <http://www.nps.gov/bowa/>, Fredericksburg & Spotsylvania NMP <http://www.nps.gov/frsp/>, Richmond NBP <http://www.nps.gov/rich/>, and Valley Forge NHP <http://www.nps.gov/vafo/>.
By volunteering, you can integrate your birding hobby with scientific research, be part of a monitoring program that helps manage our parks for the enjoyment of future generations, and contribute to a regional initiative that will increase our understanding of the status of bird populations in our national parks. For more information on the monitoring program see our Bird Monitoring Protocol <http://science.nature.nps.gov/im/units/midn/ProtocolBird.cfm> webpage.
