Sue,
Al and I may be able to help out on Wednesday. Just a quick observation drawn
from years of experience battling English Ivy--Loppers won't cut it. They will
make the ivy grow back thicker than ever. The ivy must be pulled up by the
roots, and even then there has to be a follow-up pulling in a couple months to
get the re-growth that wasn't visible the first time. Tell everyone to wear
heavy-duty gardening gloves.

Linda

Subject: [va-richmond-general] Maintaining diversity at James River Park

Wednesday, February 15, 9a.m. to noon - The Wetlands, James River Park:

Joe Shoman of National Audubon did the organizational plan for the Wetlands. It
has proven to be a rich wildlife habitat so let's eliminate the English ivy to
allow the diversity of natural plants and animals to continue. Meet Ralph White
at the end of Landria Drive. Some loppers are available. For more information,
call John Roberts at 329-0812.

(John does this activity for James River Park annually but with a number of
folks, we can put a real dent into the ivy. It is suppose to be in the 60's so
dress accordingly).
