I had a very nice walk through the Pony Pasture Section of James River Park this morning between 7:30 and 9:30. I found a number of First-of-Season birds (for me) today: Prothonotary Warbler, Palm Warbler, Northern Parula, White-eyed Vireo, Red-Eyed Vireo, and Red-breasted Merganser (one bird, foraging just along the bank). There were also Yellow-rumped Warblers, Yellow-throated Warblers, and Common Yellowthroats, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers a-plenty, a couple of singing Hermit Thrushes and an Osprey making for the north bank of the river with its breakfast. Complete list of species is below. -- Lewis Barnett Math & Comp Sci, University of Richmond, VA 23173 Location: James River Park - Pony Pasture Section Observation date: 4/22/07 Number of species: 37 Canada Goose 5 Mallard 5 Red-breasted Merganser 1 Double-crested Cormorant 7 Great Blue Heron 3 Osprey 1 Chimney Swift 2 Red-bellied Woodpecker 5 Downy Woodpecker 4 White-eyed Vireo 6 Red-eyed Vireo 2 Blue Jay 8 American Crow 3 Fish Crow 4 Carolina Chickadee 10 Tufted Titmouse 5 Carolina Wren 9 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 15 Eastern Bluebird 1 Hermit Thrush 2 American Robin 1 Cedar Waxwing 2 Northern Parula 2 Yellow-rumped Warbler 5 Yellow-throated Warbler 3 Palm Warbler 2 Prothonotary Warbler 3 Common Yellowthroat 1 Eastern Towhee 1 Field Sparrow 1 Swamp Sparrow 1 White-throated Sparrow 8 Northern Cardinal 13 Red-winged Blackbird 20 Common Grackle 4 Brown-headed Cowbird 3 American Goldfinch 9 This report was generated automatically by eBird v2 (http://www.ebird.org) You are subscribed to VA-Richmond-General.
