Bob,

If you must include a quote with your emails, I'm glad you chose the one that's
now below - at least is makes sense, whether I agree with it or not. That
ridiculous and confusing quote in the explanation from Monticello.org. isn't
even good English, and makes no sense to me! Maybe it's the way people wrote
back then. I'm glad they don't anymore.

Al

My response to Margaret was not sent out to the Richmond List because I did
not notice everyone was copied.
So, since I have heard from several folks I am forwarding my response to the
list members.

  Thanks

    Margaret:
Thanks I checked it out and you were correct.
From the monticello.org: "This exact quotation has not been found in any of
the writings of Thomas Jefferson. It bears a very vague resemblance to
Jefferson's comment in a prospectus for his translation of Destutt de Tracy's
Treatise on Political Economy: "To take from one, because it is thought that
his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to
spare to others, who, or whose fathers have not exercised equal industry and
skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, ‘the
guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry, & the fruits
acquired by it".
I had copied it from a quote site a long time ago. So I have selected a new
but still timely Jefferson quote.
I appreciate you letting me know.

We still have at least three very active hummers here in western Hanover.

We still have a couple hummingbirds, also, in eastern Henrico. In
addition to the feeders, they like most of the flowers they can find,
especially the blue salvia which has finally started blooming. Last year they
left the third week of September, I think, and have left as late as the second
week of October.

I still have hummingbirds in my garden. When do they usually leave
the Richmond area? I know there were posts about this last fall, but I don't
seem to have saved the answers.
          Thanks.
