Sunday, September 11th, 9 am until noon
This field program will concentrate on locating and identifying resident and
migratory bird species on the field station. Small groups will hike varied
habitat in search of common and not-so-common species. Emphasis will be
placed on assisting novice birders to gain field experience locating and
identifying birds. Discussions of habitat, behavior and Christmas Bird Counts
will round out the program. Sturdy shoes, layered clothing, water bottles,
binoculars and cameras recommended. $15 donation. RSVP requested.
Beginner Bird Banding Course
September 11th - 17th, residential course
Join us for six days of hands-on training and lectures to learn the skills
necessary to participate in passerine research projects involving banding for
identification. This course is suitable for professional biologists, amateur
naturalists and students (over 18 years) interested in learning mist netting
and bird handling skills. $1000 fee includes all materials as well as shared
lodging and meals in the historic farmhouse. Limited to eight participants.

Bird Spa Workshop
Saturday, October 22nd, 2 pm until 5 pm
Discover how to create a year-round, clean, running water feature on your
property to entice a variety of songbirds. Award winning nature photographer
Bob Schamerhorn will demonstrate how to create a natural looking, low
maintenance, mini-water feature that is irresistible to birds. He'll also
share incredible photographs and video demonstrating the success of his Bird
Spa. Space is limited. $15 donation. RSVP required.
Christmas Bird Count
Sunday, December 18th, dawn to dusk
Save the date for our 2016 Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count! Join one of
our sector leaders and help scour the countryside for birds. Novice and
experienced birders welcome. Details to follow.
Winter Waterfowl Walk
Saturday, January TBD, 9 am until noon,
weather permitting
Start the New Year with a crisp morning of observing waterfowl on the ponds
of the field station! Emphasis will be placed on assisting novice birders to
gain field experience identifying waterfowl. Sturdy shoes, layered clothing,
water bottles, binoculars and scopes are recommended. $15 donation. RSVP
requested.
Programs are suitable for adults as well as interested children, accompanied
by an adult.

Environmental Studies on the Piedmont (ES) is the conservation, education and
research division of the 501(c)(3) Clifton Institute. Located on a 914 acre
field station just north of Warrenton, Virginia, Environmental Studies
provides critical habitat for a wide variety of indigenous wildlife and
plants. With upland forest, meadow, stream, pond, wetland, and vernal pool
habitats, the field station is a wonderful resource for research and
educational programming. Program fees support habitat restoration at the
field station.
