Well, summer has started, so therefore camp for me has also started. Camp
Hilbert is run by the JCC and sits on about 140 acres in Maidens in Goochland
Co. Recent highlight have been Yellow-throated Vireos, Scarlet Tanagers (one
very cooperative one that was visible to many kids and even sat on the ground,
briefly), and a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. Also, 3 different species of frogs,
about half-dozen dragonfly species, and about an equal number of butterfly
species. But the most interesting thing I've seen out there this past week has
been several Palmetto Walkingstick nymphs. They were about 1/2 cm long and
blended perfectly with the host plant they were on (Panicgrass).

Good birding,
Michael
