Accidentally sent this just to sender. I cross the Lee Bridge everyday in my commute. I enjoy a quick glance at the gulls, especially in winter when they are often headed home at the same time as I am. Sometimes I see a hawk when I'm walking across campus at VCU. Tuesday, while negotiating the Mechanicsville Turnpike/I-64 exchange, I saw a common sight, a great heron flying over the intersection. Uncommonly, the heron was being harassed by 2 very persistent crows, who usually prefer to mob red-tails or smaller hawks in that area. The heron's flight pattern does not adapt well to quick maneuvering to avoid crows, so the usually graceful and strong bird was having a tough time avoiding fly-by swipes. I would have liked to watch longer to see what happened, but you know how it is when you're in traffic. One wonders why crows would see herons as a threat to their environment. The threat of hawks and owls is easier to understand. Any thoughts on this subject? Deanna ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get the Moviefone Toolbar.
