Hey, Michael...
I just got my copy of the Thrasher and saw Al's note about your decision not
to continue your kid's column in the newsletter. I can understand your
reasons, but I just wanted to let you know that I never saw your question here
on
the listserv, asking if any kids are reading your column. So I'm wondering if
perhaps others didn't see the question either.
I don't know if kids read your column; don't have any around. I know I
always did. I thought it was informative and humorous and light-hearted, and
best
of all, not in the least patronizing. Some birders, especially the
competitive ones (they won't know who they are, most likely) do tend to be more
than a
bit of the latter. That's not only a turn-off for kids, but it's a turn-off
for other adults too.
So I'll be sorry if you decide not to continue it any more. Maybe you could
just write more for the listserv? At any rate, thanks for all the great
columns of the past few years. I've enjoyed them very much.

Deanna
