2 pied billed grebes a couple of days ago in their usual winter hangout near Rock Falls Dr., one struggling to swallow a rather large fish. 1 PBGR today. Only the usual mallards and Canada geese scattered around. Mute swans never seem to go away. Flocks of tree swallows over the rocks down toward Pony Pasture Rapids both visits. There are still lots of leaves blocking the river and the quarry pond and the water level in the river needs to come up a bit, but it is time to begin checking for winter ducks! Jan Richmond
