Ran into some birders leaving and got a heads-up from them on activity. There were a number of non-birders along the trail by the water with lots of questions, so I talked quite a bit. Maybe Sue will see a couple of them tomorrow at Bryan Park. One interesting sight was yellow swallowtails puddling next to yellow goldfinches in a wet section of trail. The Swainson's thrush that someone heard singing popped up onto a branch above the stairs from the parking lot as soon as I started down. Nice to have it the day after Lewis Barnett's veery sighting at the Wetlands while my memory is fresh. On the bridge I saw a pair of rose-breasted grosbeaks in the same tree with singing Cape May warblers, yellow-rumps, blackpolls and N. parulas. Although I was not feeling very motivated I still saw plenty of nice birds. The additions I would make to Lewis Barnett's list today are Swainson's thrush, magnolia warbler (one very brief look), Cape May warbler, hairy woodpecker, eastern kingbird and TV. There were some things I missed that he had. I am still working on oriole and tanager songs, but I did manage to spot one singer-immature male orchard oriole. A couple of yellow orioles with wing bars went streaking past me in a dispute, along with a darker orange individual with wing bars. I think they were all Baltimores, but there was no time to study them. Jan Richmond
