Scouting the Springfield sector in preperation for the FT. Belvoir CBC, I
wanted to report that the female Rufous Hummer is still coming to feeders at
the Plimpton residence, near Huntsman Lake. Lake Accotink and Huntsman Lake
are frozen - with some warmer weather on the way, I'm hoping for a thaw
before the count so we can score some waterfowl...
Some highlights of the day include a Red-Shouldered Hawk at Lake Accotink, a
RT Hawk at the Rolling Road entrance to Lake Accotink, a Winter Wren along
Pohick Creek in Hidden Pond Park and a Hermit Thrush in that park as well. If
anyone is interested in volunteering, I could use a few more birders in that
sector. Seems a fair number of people will be away thru the weekend w/
holiday travels, so if anyone can volunteer for the day or part thereof...I'd
