I was taking my morning walk around the property a couple of days ago
and saw the FOS B-g Gnatcatcher flitting around int he willow shrubs
along the stream. I kept hearing a song that sounded something like a
cross between ad Ruby-crowned Kinglet song and very tiny Catbird
vocalizations. It seemed to be coming from the gnatcatcher but I could
never exactly pin it down as that. The next morning, I saw it again and
heard the same song but this time the bird was only about 6 or 7 ft from
me and I could clearly see (with binoculars) it's throat moving and it's
beak opening and closing as it sang. It reminded me of a catbird/kinglet
as I said but it was a very quiet sound almost like a whisper. I didn't
even know they had a song. I've only ever heard the familiar call.
