This morning, John Rowlett, Sandy Hevener and myself did a little eagle
scouting in the Snowy Mt. area of Highland County. We were rewarded with 4
immature Bald Eagles, one perched in a tree and 3 in the air, just south off
the Hardscrabble Rd. in an area where eagles are seen frequently. Two appeared
to be the same age, but we were unable to identify their age with certainty.
Later in the morning, just as we were saying goodbye, yet 1 more immature Bald
was seen circling south of the junction of Laurel Fork Rd. and Hevener Lane.
This may have been a hatchling year bird.
Then, to top it all off, once I got home, I was checking my phone messages in
the office, and an immature Golden flew rapidly over the house. Of course, that
was the one moment I didn't have my binocs around my neck!
Also of interest in Blue Grass area were 3 Kestrels (2 females, 1 uncertain due
to brief glimpse) I have noticed a definite shortage of these birds, so great
to see them.
