VA-Birders:
The recent e-mail entitled "A Very Special Nice Game" was a virus attempt
by whoever sent it. It is indeed fortunate that the listserv administrators no
longer accept attachments! For anyone interested, I have traced the origin of
the e-mail to someone with an account with one of the following ISP's:
UOL.COM.BR, NETMOGI.COM.BR or omni.net.au
I have sent an e-mail to all three at abuse@ followed by the listed address.
Judging by the way it was phrased, by guess is someone without a good command
of English. Therefore, one of the Brazilian ISP's. If you would like a website
to look up IP #'s or ISP's to report abuse, let me know. You may also wish to
go to http://urbanlegends.com for information on e-mail viruses ;(as well as
hoaxes, UL's, etc....). Good luck and good birding all.
Just so there is some bird info. on here, the last week of camp in Goochland
this Summer (two weeks ago), I found some owl pellets. With the amount of
woodland at camp it is only natural to believe that there are owls there,
though this is the first direct evidence I've ever had of their presence there
in four Summers. I've been there at night but only in July and August and never
heard an owl then. These were pretty chunky pellets and contained some
feathers, as well as skulls of small animals with sharp teeth (no rodent skulls
that I saw). Anyone know any really small animals in VA, other than mice and
other small rodents? Do we have any shrews in VA?
