Seeing the reports of good numbers of waterfowl in lakes to the west in VA and
WV I thought Burke Lake would have a lot too. So after school I scooted over
there to see what I could find, arriving around 4:20. The only thing different
from birds that were here on Sunday was 1 common loon. The only ducks I could
see were two Mallards. There were also 2 pied-billed grebes and the usual
Canada Geese (over 200). I could not see either adult bald eagle (they were
both present on Sunday), but there was one immature flying around. I did all my
observing from the fishing pier from which most of the lake could be seen
(except for up by the dam). I wonder why things were so different here from
places further west. All the bestFred Atwood, Flint Hill School, Oakton
