It's my recollection that years ago Black Vultures nested at the
National Zoo, although I never went up there to see those nestings. I
think this was reported from time to time in Atlantic Naturalist (the
journal of Atlantic Naturalist Society until about 1976).

Black vultures do seem to make occasional forays to our urban area. I
remember seeing a pair make a couple of forays over DuPont Circle when
I was at work one Sunday about 2 years ago, much to my amazement. They
seem to be pretty regular further out the C&O canal, and I suspect that
is the sorce of the visitors to the town area.

about 1:30 Tuesday afternoon I was driving in on Rt. 50, just across
the highway from the Iwo Jima Memorial, over the motel & office
buildings, were 2 black vultures. a bit off target, it seemed.
