Linda Millington and I conducted the canoe route portion of the Dyke Marsh
Breeding Bird Survey this morning. We stopped by the small island across from
the end of the new boardwalk and almost immediately spotted a Yellow-breasted
Chat. The bird sang and did a marvelous heads-up, stiff-wing display flight
(?) while singing as it shifted position. (I've never seen this activity before
from this species). It may be possible to see the bird from the boardwalk with
a spotting scope because it sang in clear view from the highest points of the
trees. It changes perches frequently.
