This coming weekend, I am attending my fourth Virginia Beach winter wildlife
festival. This is a fairly young event (6 years going) sponsored by Virginia
Beach tourism and parks and recreation. Despite the name, it is geared toward
birding and birders.
There are several trips each day that include transportation, guides, access to
restricted sites, and range from beginner birding to all-day outings geared
towards experienced birders. Most outings are free of charge, others cost a
small fee, depending on the trip. All are well organized and led by birders.
I strongly recommend that anyone remotely interested look into the festival. I
have been extremely impressed at the out of state interest that it has garnered
and feel that we should do everything we can to support interest in our local
birds.
Happy birding!
