VA birders,
I was fortunate enough to see the Black-throated Grey Warbler this morning.
However, I missed the repeat show this afternoon. Is this bird surviving on
berries or is it still hunting insects. I assumed berries but another birder
who
was paying more attention and observed the bird eating insects. I am hoping
that it is at least supplementing it's diet with berries. I am thinking if
insects are the mainstay of its diet the likelyhood of it hanging around is
reduced.
I would encourage birders that come to see this bird to keep their
eyes open for other good birds. In previous winters there have been
Rough-legged
Hawks, Snow buntings, Short-eared Owls, and even Crossbills. Just a local
yocal hoping to prove the validity of the Patagonia effect theory and more
importantly benifit from the results. I don't know if Red-polls have been seen
at
Blandy but this might be a good year for them.
